[Crack] Theory - Mor’s Powers in ACOTAR

Okay so i have this absolutely crack theory about Mor’s powers in ACOTAR - I was reading these posts by @silverlinedeyes

So, in the second post they talk about the comparison between Mor’s powers and those of The Morrigan, something that is very in line with SJM and her love of using mythology in her stories. In Celtic mythology The Morrigan is able to claim souls from the battlefield, something it seems unlikely Mor will be able to do, since she isn’t a goddess and all. I mean as far as we know. In the post @silverlinedeyes talks about how this is similar to Aragorn raising the armies of the dead in Return of The King and how it’d be cool if Mor could do something similar.

However, I then thought about taking this a step further. So SJM is also big on etymology and words being used selectively with meaning. Mor/Morrigan is therefore a very interesting name. So ‘Mor’ may derive from a variety of words from the Old English (maere), the Scandinavian (mara), and the Old East Slavic (mara) with all of these meaning nightmare. The link here is quite obvious since Mor was born into the Court of Nightmares, and most specifically the family line which used to rule the Night Court, and still rules the Hewn City.

Rigan in Old Irish then translates to Queen. This means that Mors full name translates to Nightmare Queen or Queen of Nightmares.

So, Mor is from the ruling family of the courts of nightmares, potentially making her a ‘princess’ (similar to Cresseida and Varian of the Summer Court). If then Mor was able to raise the souls of the dead to fight for her similar to Aragorn, especially if the souls she raised were the souls of fallen Darkbringers, would that not make her the Queen of Nightmares? The Queen who raised and led the souls of the Darkbringer army. This may also relate to why Mor doesn’t tend to use her full name, she is born of nightmares but not yet their Queen.

Overall I think this theory is a bit out of the ballpark and unlikely to happen and we don’t have much evidence of any amount of necromancy in any of the SJM universe so far but I just thought it was super cool.

Yknow, part of me want to be upset, or properly angry, but a larger part of me finds it, in a way, amusing to just watch the chaos unfold.

#I’m so completely unsurprised by all of this#it’s like#they’re desperately trying to heave water back out of the boat#but instead of using buckets they just drill more holes and hope the water runs back out on its own

Those are some excellent tags there phanter

if you ever feel bad for bullshitting a paper let me just remind you that in “the history of animals” aristotle, one of the most famous ancient greek philosophers and natural scientists, claimed out of nowhere that men have more teeth than women with absolutely no justification or evidence and then immediately kept going on with what he was talking about

a-vision-with-nowhere-to-go

This belief also continued long out of classics as people just carried on not yahno counting the number of teeth people had, just going yep men obviously have more
